Fresh off an impressive performance which included nearly 200 all-purpose yards, Detroit Lions running back Reggie Bush is enjoying his time so far in his new city. Bush, who spent the last two seasons in Miami, would constantly face seven- and eight-man boxes from defenses which would challenge the eight-year veteran operating between the tackles.
Fortunately in Detroit, they have a weapon of their own that keeps opponent’s awake at night.
“It’s very refreshing to have Calvin Johnson out there, knowing that coordinators game plan specifically for him,” Bush told FOX Sports 1’s Peter Schrager. “They roll their coverages over towards him and that kind of leaves running lanes open for me.
“Whenever I look across the line and I see five or six guys in the box, I’m licking my chops and I can’t wait to get the ball in my hands.”
Bush, 28, had an immediate impact in his first week against the Vikings with 21 carries for 90 rushing yards and had 101 yards and a touchdown receiving. Offensive coordinator Scott Linehan is also licking his chops as he has multiple playmakers to give defenses fits. Bush remembers why he came to Detroit and how his identity relates to the Motor City.
“Detroit is a blue-collar city,” Bush said. “It’s full of good people, who are hard workers and that’s the kind of person I am. That’s a little bit of the reason why it was easy decision for me to come here because I’m a blue-collar, hardworking guy.
“I show up early and leave late.”
