Cam Newton has warmth behind his giant smile.
The Charlotte Observer reports the Panthers quarterback gave a special gift to a special fan during training camp. Shelley McIntosh, who suffers from cerebral palsy and is unable to speak, communicated that she wanted to meet Newton.
After the Panthers finished up a practice, Newton was walking off the field and spotted McIntosh sitting in her wheelchair, was drawn in by her smile and came over.
“A soon as he came up to her, he wanted to know her name and we told him her name and he just bent over unlacing his shoes,” McIntosh’s mother Pat said to the Oberserver, “and I just thought he’d give her a shoelace and thought, ‘What he’s doing?’”
Before she knew it, Newton had given Shelley his shoes, which he autographed. Cam also signed the football that Shelley’s father brought along.
“I think Cam needs to be given credit because he’s young and fairly new to our team,” Pat said. “And I just think when the guys do that, when they’re tired and come off that field and made that gesture to Shelley, that says so much for his heart.”
Kudos to you, Cam. We always knew you were all heart.
