Mazda plans to refurbish Alfred Morris’ beat-up ride

Robert Griffin III may have been in the driver’s seat while piloting the Redskins offense last year, but it was running back Alfred Morris who was the engine.

Morris, who broke out in his rookie season with 1,613 yards rushing and a second-team All-Pro selection, was a 2012 sixth-round pick out of Florida Atlantic and owned a car that resembled his humble beginnings: A 1991 Mazda 626.

Well, Mazda has reportedly reached out to the Redskins running back’s “people” and offered to fine tune the vehicle. The whole job, which would refine the inside and out and under the hood, would take 6-8 weeks to finish.

“It’s not ‘Pimp My Ride’ or anything,” Morris told CBSSports.com. “No big rims or fish tanks in the back.” However, he might get a handful of updates for the 22-year-old car he nicknamed “Bentley.” “Like a navigation system or something maybe,” he said.

A little history about the car: Morris bought the ride from his pastor while at FAU and made the long road trip to Washington D.C. after the Redskins had signed him. During last season, the car had 124,000 miles on it and reportedly wouldn’t start after he returned from the Thanksgiving Day win in Dallas.
