Aaron Rodgers shouldn’t cough up a dime for backing a friend

This is getting dumb.

Let’s summarize: About a year ago, Aaron Rodgers was asked by a fan on Twitter if he believed his good friend Ryan Braun used performance-enhancing drugs. The Packers QB responded, saying that he would bet a year’s salary that his buddy was clean.

Smash-cut to a year later and Braun has been suspended for being tied to PEDs. Whoop-de-doo. So, “enterprising” journalists decided to have some fun, saying Rodgers owes the fan in question a year’s salary for being wrong about Braun.

First of all, let’s break down how asinine that is. Ross Jones is my colleague and friend here at FOXSports.com. If one day a report came out that Ross kicks puppies, the first thing I would do is turn around and ask, “Hey, dude … do you kick puppies?” Once he assured me that no, he does not in fact boot pups, that would be good enough for me.

In fact, if someone were to ask if I believed Ross kicks puppies, I’d say “I bet a million dollars that he doesn’t.” If I end up being wrong, I’m not being forced into coughing up the money. Nor would there be stories questioning if I should or shouldn’t.

Now, our good friends at NESN gave us a story that the fan in question, Todd Sutton, would be satisfied just getting a “game check” from Rodgers.

Oh, you would, eh? Sure, I get that he’s probably kidding, but this whole thing is nonsense. Todd, you were somehow proven right in this. Now, take your battle chestnut and go away.

Aaron Rodgers doesn’t owe anyone a thing.
